Jeez. That’s gotta hurt. Rally bikes have a really good habit of feeling incredible to ride, until they no longer feel incredible to ride. A quick youtube search will give you a dozen crashes worth watching and for everyone caught on camera, 20 Dakar riders have been thrown clear of theirs.
While out shooting promo footage for their latest range of clothing under the Raiden brand, test rider Scott Bright wadded in. All 180kg’s of his KTM 450 came after him and he felt full force. As reported by the good guys at ADV Pulse the crash was a little more brutal then the America, then in training for the 2016 Dakar, would’ve liked.
“What really happened right after the fall, that never gets shown on film, is quite a tale. As Scott sits on the ground trying to regain his senses, he hears a hissing sound behind him. At first he thinks it’s the radiator or something sizzling on the hot exhaust. Soon the camera crew are upon him coming to his aid. Just before reaching him, they yell out, “Don’t move Scott! Stay where you are and don’t move!”
“He almost got struck by a pissed off rattle snake”
Assuming they are trying to keep him from making his injuries worse, he sits still. A few seconds later the hissing noise seems to dissipate and that’s when he learns he almost got struck by a pissed off rattle snake just a few feet from him. Luckily, the snake decided to slither away instead of making Scott’s bad day much much worse.”
The American broke both arms in the crash, both of which required surgery. He made a full recovery, finished the Dakar rally some months later and returned to complete the video. Top Notch.
